Former Trump Adviser Says There Are 'Different Alternatives' To Get Trump Reelected In 2028

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon is doubling down on the rumours that President Donald Trump might try and finagle his way into a third presidential term in 2028. While appearing on the “ Batya! ” segment for NewsNation on Saturday, host Batya Ungar-Sargon asked Bannon if the 22nd Amendment, which states no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice, could be a “barrier” for Trump’s plans to run again . “I fully intend to see President Trump on the ballot in 2028 and to return to office, to continue the great run he’s had as the 47th president,” Bannon responded. Bannon, who was let go by the Trump administration as the White House chief strategist in 2017, cryptically claimed there are “different alternatives” that could be pursued to see Trump take on office again. “But I think there are different alternatives to make sure that President Trump is on the ballot, and if he’s on the ballot, he’ll win,” he added. Speaking with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo in March, Bannon said that they’ve already begun “working” to get Trump reelected. “We’re working on it. I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that,” he told Cuomo. “We’ll see what the definition of term limit is.” Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon says he "fully intend[s] to see President Trump on the ballot in 2028." After Cuomo asked Bannon for clarification so people don’t think he’s “cooking up an insurrection,” Bannon held tight to his remarks. “I want people to get a straight take on where your head is,” Cuomo said, to which Bannon replied, “We’ve had greater long shots than Trump 2028, and we’ve got a lot of stuff we’re working on there.” Bannon added: “We’re not prepared to talk about it publicly, but in a couple months, I think we will be.” Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of him running for a third term since at least 2020 . Speaking with NBC News in March, Trump declared that he’s not “ joking ” about the possibility. The president told moderator Kristen Welker that he has been presented with ways to obtain a third term. “There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said. Asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President JD Vance would run for office and then transfer the role to him, Trump replied that “that’s one” method. “But there are others, too,” Trump added, without offering further explanation. Trump Refuses To Let Go Of Macron During Aggressively Long Handshake At Egypt Summit

President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shared another long, aggressive handshake while meeting at the signing of the Gaza peace agreement in Egypt. The two came together ahead of the “family photograph” of world leaders who had gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to witness the breakthrough ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. Trump was pictured amiably shaking hands with presidents, prime ministers and other leaders in turn, before the room was apparently infused with testosterone when France’s head of state arrived. (Watch a video at the top of the story.) President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shake hands in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. During the 27-second clasp, they started with a traditional handshake and near-embrace before both leaders appeared to try to yank the other as they engaged in an overhand grip. When Macron attempted to break away, Trump continued to hold firm. This appeared to force the French president to grab his counterpart’s forearm before they finally parted. The grip-and-grin was captured on Fox News, with host John Roberts describing the face-off as a “bro shake.” Viral raw footage of the handshake characterised it as an “arm wrestle.” The incident is just the latest in a long history of prolonged, white-knuckle handshakes between Trump and Macron that began in 2017 at their first in-person meeting and continued in February when they met to discuss a possible end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Trump was in Egypt to discuss postwar plans for Gaza and the U.S.-proposed deal with other leaders. It came as Hamas released all 20 of the last living Israeli hostages on Monday as part of the historic settlement after two years of war that has devastated the Gaza Strip. Buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners drove to the West Bank city of Ramallah and the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-run Prisoners Office said, as Israel has released more than 1,900 prisoners.
