‘Witnessing a neo-colonial project’ - Thousands march in London on UN Palestinian Solidarity Day amid hunger protest over arrests

"Thousands joined a pro-Palestine rally in London on Friday, marching in support of Gazans and imprisoned hunger strikers in the UK, as the world marked the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Footage from the march shows protesters chanting while holding placards reading ‘Holocaust survivor descendants against Gaza genocide,’ ‘Support our hunger strikers,’ and ‘End the genocide.’ Demonstrators moved through central streets before gathering to hear speeches from organisers and community leaders. “Their ceasefire is a lie. The peace process is a lie,” one organiser said. “There is next to no reconstruction. What we are witnessing is a neo-colonial project to continue the subjugation of the Palestinian people.” Speakers also used the march to highlight the condition of UK hunger strikers held on remand for Palestine-related activism. “I want you to remember their names, and remember their demands,” one speaker said, adding that two hunger strikers, including Cameron Ante, had been hospitalised. “How long will we leave it before we act? Shabana Mahmood and our government, led by a human rights lawyer, Keir Starmer, you must act now and engage in meaningful conversation to prevent further deterioration.” Around 33 detainees have been on a rolling hunger strike for nearly 30 days, protesting what they describe as unlawful imprisonment without trial, mistreatment in custody, and demanding fair trial rights and the dropping of terror-related charges."
