'We owe a great deal to the Prime Minister' - Nyiregyhaza residents praise Putin-Orban talks outcome, slam pouring money into Ukraine

"Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's supporters flocked to a pre-election Digital Civic Circle rally, forming a large queue in front of the Continental Arena in Nyiregyhaza on Saturday. The attendees praised the Hungarian leader's efforts in guaranteeing energy supply to the country after the last Hungary-Russian talks resulted in what the state head described as the 'lowest utility costs in all of Europe' for Hungary. "We will have gas and we will have crude oil. A perfectly successful meeting," one of the locals, Jambor Mikoosne, stated. "We have no sea, we have no other way to bring it in. We could get it from elsewhere, but at double or triple the price, and we don't want that yet." "Naturally, we are very pleased, because a key issue that is important for all of us will be resolved," another local, Bara Tiborne, added. "I think we owe a great deal to the Prime Minister." On Friday, the Prime Minister fled to Moscow to meet with  Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders reportedly discussed issues related to energy co-operation, including the supply of Russian oil and gas to Hungary, as well as measures to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Some speakers shared disappointment with the recent European Union (EU) policy. Money infusion to Ukraine was one of the main critiques, with the ongoing corruption scandal adding to the spreading gust of disbelief in Kiev. "The Union obviously shouldn't just hand over the money, because we know it would basically be stolen," another local, Frank Zoltan, said. "Not all of it, but I'd say about two-thirds would definitely disappear." "Even before that, before the war, it was noticeable that corruption in Ukraine was very high. And the fact that now there is a war, and they are sending their sons to the front, while at the highest levels the aid disappears - well, that is absurd," Kaptur Sandor commented. Some of the responders went on to accuse Brussels of clinging to their 'quite serious mistakes' in their policy out of shame. "I don't believe that anyone thinking normally and rationally could fail to notice that yes, we have made mistakes - but admitting it now, well, that is human weakness," Sandor added. The 'golden toilet' corruption row engulfing the Ukrainian government saw tens of millions 'skimmed' from energy contracts. Critics claimed Ukraine's presidential office head Andriy Yermak was the 'Ali Baba' named in wiretapped conversations linked to the probe. The aforementioned golden toilet was found in the bathroom of another Zelensky ally, Timur Mindich, said to have been the mastermind, while the plot has already brought down both the energy and justice ministers. The rally at Continental Arena is part of the larger anti-war national tour, launched by Orban on October 23. The rallies are also scheduled for Kecskemet on December 6, Mohacs on December 13, and Szeged on December 20. Hungary is set to hold parliamentary elections on the 3rd of April 2026. Orban's Fidesz-KDNP coalition currently leads in national polls, with recent surveys suggesting a strong advantage in rural areas, while opposition parties gain traction in urban centres."
