Morocco's King calls on 'everyone to take responsibility' for nation's accelerated development during Parliament speech in Rabat

"King Mohammed VI of Morocco urged for a concerted effort to expedite the pace of development in the Kingdom on Friday. He underscored that the responsibility of fair and inclusive development 'lies not only with the government but with everyone.' In a speech delivered during the opening of the parliamentary session for October, the Moroccan monarch emphasised that major national projects should be aligned with social programmes. "Major national projects and social programmes should not be in conflict or competition, as long as the objective is to advance the country and elevate people's standard of living wherever they may be," he explained. The king also stressed the need to enhance communication between institutions and citizens, with a focus on their rights and freedoms. "Special attention must be paid to the involvement of citizens, promoting the initiatives taken by the public authorities and the various laws and decisions, particularly those directly impacting the rights and freedoms of citizens," he said. Highlighting the importance of vulnerable regions, especially mountainous regions and oases, the king noted that "harmonious territorial development cannot be implemented without effective integration and solidarity between areas and regions." These remarks come amid recent 'Generation Z' protests nationwide calling for the eradication of corruption, guaranteeing the right to education and healthcare, and improving public service."
