'Interventions will lead to greater crises' – Turkey's AKP spox warns against 'foreign interference' in Iran's protests

"Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesperson Omer Celik warned during a Central Executive Board meeting on Monday that any foreign interference in Iran's protests would only exacerbate the situation. "We are not ignoring the problems in Iranian society and state life, but the solution to this problem, [...] must come from the Iranian society's own dynamics and the Iranian state's own will," Celik stated. "Therefore, we foresee that external interventions will lead to even worse results, especially with Israel's provocation, and that interventions within the framework of Israel's objectives will lead to greater crises and greater difficulties," he stressed. The spokesperson accused Israeli officials of attempting to adopt a 'reckless stance' that would trigger greater struggles in the region.   Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel "is closely monitoring what is happening in Iran". Iran has seen widespread demonstrations since late December, beginning in Tehran and later spreading to other cities, driven by deteriorating economic conditions and the sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial against the US dollar. Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) has claimed that at least 648 protesters, including nine under the age of 18, have been killed, while Iranian authorities say more than 100 of their officers have died in the uprising, figures that could not be independently verified. On Friday, Donald Trump told Iran's authorities they "better not start shooting, because we'll start shooting too", having previously warned that he could intervene following any potential crackdown. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian announced economic plans to deal with the 'people's demands' on Sunday, but also accused the US of trying to 'sow chaos and disorder'."

Stephen Graham Has A Fresh Update On Adolescence Season 2 After Golden Globes Wins

Stephen Graham backstage at the Golden Globes on Sunday night Stephen Graham has updated fans on the possibility of a second season of his hit Netflix miniseries Adolescence . On Sunday night, fresh from collecting the Golden Globe for his performance as father Eddie Miller in Adolescence, Stephen was asked about the chance of the show returning for a second series. “I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and [screenwriter[ Jack [Thorne]’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years,” he told reporters in the awards show’s press room . “So stay tuned.” Stephen Graham on ‘Adolescence’ Season 2: “Stay tuned” | #GoldenGlobes Read more here: https://t.co/PFfqWYci4i pic.twitter.com/2SOuJDoJQK — Deadline (@DEADLINE) January 12, 2026 The British actor’s win was one of four Golden Globes victories for Adolescence , with Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty both picking up acting titles and the show itself being named Best Limited Series, Anthology Series Or TV Movie. Although Netflix originally billed Adolescence as a miniseries – intended to consist of four self-contained episodes – Stephen and Jack have hinted that the show could turn into an anthology series in the future. Stephen previously told Tudum that if the show were to return for a second season, he doesn’t expect to see Jamie or the Miller family back. “We knew that we wanted to end it in [Jamie’s] room. We wanted the journey to finish where it began,” he said. Although the story of Eddie Miller, a father who is blindsided when his 13-year-old son commits a terrible crime, might be over, the series could follow another family in the aftermath of a shocking incident. “If we were to go again, would I like it to go again? With a different story completely? Yes,” Stephen told Variety last year. Jack also previously made it clear that any new episodes would not continue the story of Jamie and the Miller family, saying: “I don’t think there’s anywhere more we can take Jamie. So, I don’t think there is a series two. “We’d love to explore the one-shot format in another way – we’d love to tell other stories with it, but I don’t think a series two of Adolescence is quite right for us.” Given the conversations the show has started , there is potential for the writers to explore how similar themes might affect different families. In April last year, the co-presidents of the Plan B production company, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, told Deadline that they were talking to the show’s director, Philip Barantini, about the “next iteration” of the show. Gardner also said they are thinking about how they can “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive,” but stayed tight-lipped on exactly on what this would look like. It’s no surprise Netflix want a second series of Adolescence. The show has cleaned up at nearly every awards season since its 2025 debut, winning eight of its 13 Emmy nominations as well as four Golden Globe Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.
