"Hungary's Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, Gergely Gulyas, warned on Monday that Ukraine's proposed peace plan, which includes Kiev's accession to the European Union in 2027, poses a direct and imminent threat to the bloc, arguing that Brussels is pushing Europe closer to war. "In 11 months, Ukraine would become a member of the European Union. That much about how realistic the danger is that the European Union would admit Ukraine, which is obviously in an unfit state for this. Maybe even the great powers have enough sense not to say yes in 2027, but it is such a real and imminent threat," he said on the Warrior's Podcast on Tuesday. Gulyas accused European leaders of escalating tensions with Russia through policies that, in his view, increase the risk of direct military confrontation. "Many have explicitly announced that they are going to war, that they are sending soldiers," he stressed, referring to the UK and France's plans to send troops to Ukraine. The minister also criticised what he described as forced conscription in Ukraine, claiming that 'hundreds of thousands of civilians' had been drafted against their will. "Numerous European political leaders foresee direct military confrontation within a few years, envision war with Europe, and even the NATO Secretary General made such a statement," he added. Gulyas said the political landscape shifted following US President Donald Trump's return to office, claiming Washington's change in direction had forced even pro-war actors to adopt peace rhetoric. "Today, everyone is talking about peace. Even those who actually support the war, so Europe is also full of all sorts of signifiers in front of peace, and often try to hinder American peace efforts, but even in words, they now speak of peace," he stated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Ukraine was finalising documents for a security deal with the US and that they were essentially 'ready for signing.'"
