Chalamet a smash, Sinners shut out: the key Golden Globes snubs and surprises

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another looks unstoppable ahead of the Oscars, despite Timothée Chalamet’s triumph over Leonardo DiCaprio for best actor The biggest backlash brewing concerns Ryan Coogler’s Sinners , lauded by critics and embraced – especially in the US – by audiences as one of 2025’s key cultural landmarks. The thriller did win two Globes – for cinematic and box office achievement and original score – but both wound up not really counting. The first is the Globes’s consolation prize (it was won by Barbie in 2023 and Wicked last year); the second wasn’t even broadcast on the telecast. Coogler missing out on screenplay to One Battle After Another was perceived by some as a slap in the face – the Oscars and Baftas separate the category into original and adapted, however, so a corrective could come. Sadiq Khan Says Donald Trump Is 'A Bit Jealous' Of Him In Brutal Slapdown

Sadiq Khan makes a speech after he is re-elected for a record third time as Mayor of London in 2024. Sadiq Khan has accused Donald Trump of being “a bit jealous of him” as new figures revealed London’s murder rate has plummeted. The London mayor hit out just a month after the US president said he was “horrible” and suggested he only won because immigrants to the capital voted for him. It was just the latest in a long line of insults Trump has aimed at Khan in recent years. New data released on Monday morning showed that 97 homicides were recorded in London in 2025, down from 153 in 2019. On Radio 4′s Today programme, presenter Emma Barnett told Khan: “You have been described by President Trump as a horrible mayor, incompetent, vicious, disgusting, a disaster. “You’ve called him a bully. I wonder, do you think you’ve been sufficiently defended by Downing Street and Sir Keir Starmer ?” The mayor replied: “I sometimes feel like I’m nine years old again with this tit for tat stuff with President Trump. I’ve got the full support of not just the government but, more importantly, Londoners.” Pressed again on whether he believes he has been defended by the PM, Khan said: “I’ve had the full support of the prime minister, the foreign secretary and from the government and from Londoners. “What today shows is why we are the greatest city in the world and why President Trump is a bit jealous.” Responding to Trump’s most recent criticisms of Khan last month, a spokesman for Starmer said: “The mayor of London is doing an excellent job delivering free school meals in primary schools, cleaning up London’s air, introducing the world’s largest clean air zone, and building record numbers of council houses. “The prime minister is proud of the mayor of London’s record and proud to call him a colleague and friend.” khan Downing Street Hits Back At Trump's Attack On 'Disgusting' Sadiq Khan No.10 Refuses To Criticise Trump After He Slams Europe And 'Disgusting' Sadiq Khan Sadiq Khan Reignites Donald Trump Feud By Backing Zohran Mamdani

Convicted media tycoon Jimmy Lai back in Hong Kong court to begin mitigation hearing

"A Hong Kong court began a four-day mitigation hearing on Monday to determine the severity of the sentences for pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai and his co-defendants, following their December 2025 conviction. Footage shows a heavy police presence outside the West Kowloon Law Courts building, including armoured vehicles, while dozens of supporters can be seen queuing since before sunrise to witness the proceedings. Later, Lai’s wife can also be seen arriving at court. The hearing, overseen by a panel of three High Court judges, is the defence's final opportunity to argue for leniency before formal sentencing for charges of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and of publishing ‘seditious’ material. 78-year-old Lai was arrested on August 10, 2020 following the adoption of the National Security Law in July 2020. His arrest came after mass pro-democracy protests in 2019. The businessman has been held in solitary confinement for nearly four years and has been denied access to UK lawyers, according to media reports. He is a Chinese-British dual citizen - both the UK and the US have called for his release, while his supporters have accused the country of using legislation to silence critics. China introduced the national security law for Hong Kong following a wave of pro-democracy protests in 2019, with provisions including secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign or external forces. If found guilty, Lai faces a life sentence in jail."
